Sacha Baron Cohen has claimed Liam Gallagher once threatened to stab him “in the eye”.
The Borat star, who based his look in his new film Grimsby on the Oasis frontman, revealed he met the singer at the GQ Awards in London.
Appearing on US talkshow Conan, Sacha recounted how he warned Liam he was going to crack a joke about him on stage, but then forgot the gag after he picked up his award.
According to Sacha, the pair saw each other at an after-party with U2′s Bono when the Wonderwall singer repeatedly asked: “Who’s the greatest f****** living rock star?”
After the Ali G comedian suggested the answer was Stevie Wonder or Bono, Liam apparently replied: “No, John Lennon”, before bizarrely claiming “I am John Lennon”.
Sacha said: “At that point he falls over, hits his head on the table, looks up and looks directly at me as if I’ve pushed him over.
“I whisper to Bono: ‘I think I should go’, and Bono says: ‘Stay right here, you’re fine as long as you’re next to me’.”
According to Sacha, Liam then challenged him on why he had not told the promised joke on stage before remarking: “You know what, I’m going to stab you. I’m going to stab you in the eye.”
Sacha said: “I thought to myself, I’ve never heard such a specific threat. That’s a good aim.
“Anyway, eventually he didn’t stab me so I thought I would avoid confrontation by having my hair done like him in the next movie.”
