DO you have any memories of the Albany Laundry in Leigh or the Sunlight Laundry in Westcliff? If so, artist Bridget Smith wants to invite you for a coffee and a chat.

Bridget is working on a project "responding to the former sites" commission by Focal Point Gallery and Southend Borough Council.

She would like to invite former workers, users or anyone else who was familiar with the laundries to a coffee morning to have an informal discussion about their memories and experiences.

Bridget is interested in finding out more about the social history and workings of the laundries, including any photographs and memorabilia from the sites.

If you have memories, anecdotes or photographs you would like to share, pop along to the Twenty One culture cafe near the bottom of the Pier Lift in Pier Approach, Western Esplanade, on Monday February26, at 11am or get in touch with Laura Bowen, assistant curator at Focal Point Gallery, on 01702 534108, or email her at laurabowen@southend.gov.uk.

The Albany Laundry was in Eastwood Boulevard/Nelson Road, Leigh. The Sunlight Laundry was in North Road/Salisbury Avenue in Westcliff.

Bridget Smith is a Leigh based artist who previously exhibited at the Focal Point Gallery in Elmer Square, in 2015.

The laundry project is hoped to be ready for launching in November this year.
