FAMILIES can look forward to enjoying an updated children’s play area and new skate park after a £110,000 revamp of a park.

Following a consultation with young people from North Crescent Primary School, in North Crescent, Wickford, the Drop Zone Youth Club, which runs from the Downtowner Youth Centre, in Irvon Hill Road, and the Nevendon Neighbourhood Agreement committee, the Nevendon Road Park is set to get a fresh look.

Youngsters will be able to benefit from new children’s play equipment and a modern skate park once work, which is set to begin on Monday and expected to last about three weeks, is completed.

The revamp of the park has been funded by £95,000 from Basildon Council, plus an additional contribution of £15,000 from the resident-led Nevendon Neighbourhood Agreement.

Councillor Kevin Blake, Basildon Council’s cabinet member responsible for for leisure and arts, said: “This is a great example of the council working collaboratively with the local community to make positive and long lasting improvements.

“We are committed to improving play in our parks so young people can enjoy taking part in an active lifestyle.”
