THE BROTHER of a younger sibling who killed himself during a bout of depression is holding a gig to raise aid for a mental health charity.

Richard Hobart, 27, sadly died after stepping out in front of a London-bound train at Pitsea station on Monday, December 5.

In May, Chris Hobart, 30, who lives in Langdon Hills, will host a charity gig on behalf of mental health charity Mind, alongside other musicians.

Mr Hobart, who works in the music industry, paid tribute to his brother.

He said: “It has been extremely hard after our loss we are just trying to keep going.

“Richard was very hardworking, a really good carpenter that could turn his hand to anything.

“he loved going to the gym, fishing, and was always up for a laugh.

“He had a reputation for eating two dinners a days. Richard was caring, and always put others first.”

An inquest into Richard’s death heard the kitchen fitter - who was also suffering from insomnia and a back injury - had been prescribed anti-depressants, sleeping tablets and anti-anxiety drug diazapam.

His family believed the diazapam may have played a contributing factor towards his death as it can cause medical complications when taken alongside anti-depressants.

Chris’s band Carousel will host the live music event at Saint Mary Magdalen Church, Billericay on Saturday May 20 from 7pm.

Mr Hobart continued: “Each artist performing holds this charity close to their heart and would like to raise awareness and money for the amazing work they do for people who suffer with mental heath problems.

“We want to help stop this from happening to someone else’s family, and we just want people to know that there is support out there, through charities like Mind.”

Southend-based Carousel, a six-piece Americana collective, consists of Chris Hobart, Thomas Eatherton, Sarah Holburn, Joe Rossi, Toby Shaer and Thomas Strike.

They describe their style as a fusion of country, folk, blues and roots with influences drawn from many musical styles, allowing them to present a fresh take on heartfelt, honest music.

Carousel will be backed by local musicians Dan Pierce and Chris Asher.

Tickets, which cost from £8, are available from eventbrite.co.uk.

Mind provides advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problems and campaigns to raise awareness about various conditions.
