STONE Roses frontman Ian Brown made a guest appearance at a charity football match to raise cash for a hospice.
The match was organised in aid of Thurrock FC boss Mark Stimson's appeal to raise money for St Clare Hospice in Harlow, which provided care for his late father Steve, who died aged 74 before Christmas following a battle with a brain tumour.
"Dad's Army" made up of friends, family and former players to have shared the pitch with Mr Stimson took on coach Tony Gay's all-stars, featuring former Grays Athletic and Thurrock players.
Mr Stimson's daughter Cristie, who will be running the London Marathon in aid of St Clare, took kick off with Ian Brown.
Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal both generously donated signed football shirts to help raise £800.
With club officials and volunteers having generously raised £2,000 before the match, a further £2,000 taken on the day saw £4,000 raised.
