A BUTCHERS is celebrating after winning gold in a national competition.
Eight products from Byfords, in Eastwood Old Road, Leigh, secured the awards at the National Barbecue Competition.
Its pork and mustard sausages scored full marks, with other awards for its old English, farmhouse and hog Roast sausages – a new recipe launched last year.
Butcher Matthew Howard, who makes the products, said: “It was great to show people the quality we work to and it is always nice to be recognised.
“We had our fingers crossed we would win the title for five or six products but eight was far beyond our hopes.
“Most other butchers create something special to enter the competition but we use our everyday products.”
They beat off competition from more than 70 butchers.
