A RESIDENT has urged young women to be vigilant after a man tried to convince someone to get into his car "for a lift home".

The resident, who has asked not to be named, saw a man pull his car onto her driveway in London Road, in Hadleigh, before running to a nearby bus stop where he started talking to a young woman.

She said: "He ran down to the bus stop to talk to her and only stopped when I shouted at him to get off my driveway.

"Once he had driven away I asked the girl if he knew her and she said there were two of them who drove past her and then they went around the block.

"The second time there was only one driving and he pulled into the driveway and ran down to her and told her she was so beautiful he had to stop and was trying to get her number and asking her to get into his car so he can give her a lift.

"If I hadn't shouted at him to get off my drive he would have continued to pester her and god knows what else could have happened."

She added: "Someone must have seen that car driving around the area. Keep your eyes about you girls and lads please!"

An Essex Police spokesman said: "Police were called to reports of a man acting suspiciously in Hadleigh.

"It was reported a man in a car pulled up in London Road at around 7pm on Tuesday, May 23, got out of his vehicle, and spoke to a woman at a nearby bus stop.

"The man was challenged by another member of the public and left the area."
