A CARE home resident celebrated her 100th birthday with a special party.

Joan Godfree, who was born on May 23, 1917, lives at Sandringham Care Home, Westcliff Avenue, Westcliff.

She has been living at the care home since December 2013.

Joan celebrated the milestone birthday surrounded by her friends and family and even had a visit from Fay Evans, mayor of Southend.

There was plenty of fun including cake, balloons and event a pink tiara for Joan.

The staff at the care home also joined in the celebrations to help make Joan’s day as special as possible.

She said: “I thoroughly enjoyed my birthday and the visit from the mayor.

“We has a tea party at the care home with my closest family and friends.

“One of the care staff made my birthday cake which went down a treat along with the couple of sherries that I enjoyed. My dream was to lead a long and healthy life and I am pleased to have achieved that.”
