ESSEX Police have quashed reports of a terror attack in Billericay.

It comes after officers were called to Chantry Way this morning, amid speculation chants were made related to the attacks in London.

Officers arriving at the scene which prompted rumours from residents to spread on social media.

However the force has dismissed the claims, the Echo understands officers carried out an as yet unconfirmed number of arrests on suspicion of drink driving and public order offences.

An Essex Police spokesman said: "Two men have been arrested following an incident in Billericay. 

"Officers were contacted just before 8.30am this morning, Sunday, June 4, with reports of a group of men acting suspiciously area on silver car in Saffron Walk. 

"When we attended two men were arrested. A 24-year-old man from east London was arrested on suspicion of drink driving, driving without insurance and committing a public order offence.

"A second 24-year-old man from south west London was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence. 

"We would like to reiterate that this matter is not linked in any way to the events in London last night nor does it have any links to terrorism."
