CONTRACTORS will be working on the next phase of major roadworks as part of a new housing estate.

Nethermayne, in Basildon, is to become a dual carriageway, as the next part of work in Dry Street begins today.

It comes with work on a 181-home estate already under way

Work began in January to widen and reconstruct Dry Street, providing a new footpath, and contractors will also start to install a traffic light controlled junction to Dry Street at its junction with with Nethermayne.

Nethermayne from Dry Street to the hospital roundabout will have two lanes up to the roundabout, and some replacement and upgrading to street lighting will also be carried out during the ongoing improvements.

An Essex Highways spokesman said that two-way traffic flow will be maintained in Nethermayne for the majority of the work, with a temporary speed limit of 30mph to ensure public and road worker safety.

Dry Street will remain temporarily closed with diversions in place during the remainder of the work.
