CASTLE Point councillors have expressed their “disappointment” with the work being carried out on Canvey by Virgin Media.

The telecoms company is working to install broadband equipment in Labworth Road, Atherstone Road and Beach House Gardens, Canvey.

However, there have been a number of complaints about the quality of the work.

Now, Castle Point councillors Chas Mumford and town councillors Jay Blisset have written a letter to Essex county councillors Peter May and David Blackwell calling for action to be taken against the firm.

It reads: “Please accept this open letter as a demand from Canvey Islanders for you to immediately make representations to Essex County Council highlighting our disappointment at the standard of work being carried out by Virgin Media within our neighbourhood.

“We have seen a number of our pathways renewed on Canvey in recent months and this progress must not be hindered by the poor workmanship of a private contractor.

“The Canvey Independent Party are in the privileged position of totally representing our island at Essex County Council and on behalf of Canvey Island residents we expect immediate action from yourselves as the responsible elected members for the County Council.

“We look forward to your early confirmation that a thorough review of the previous and future Virgin Media works on Canvey will be carried out immediately.”
