A UKIP councillor was arrested on suspicion of common assault following a disturbance in Horndon-on-the-Hill.
Councillor Angela Sheridan, who represents the Belhus ward, was arrested on Sunday, December 10, at around 2:55am on Horndon Road.
However, she was later released from custody and the charges against her were dismissed.
UKIP leader for Thurrock, Councillor Graham Snell, said: "To confirm, Councillor Sheridan was arrested initially by the police who then dismissed all charges against her and that is the end of the matter."
A spokesman for Essex Police said: "Police were called to a disturbance in Horndon Road, Hordon-on-the-Hill, at around 2.55am on Sunday, December 10.
"Officers attended and arrested a 56-year-old woman on suspicion of common assault.
“She was later released without charge”.
