Good news for those who are already missing the summer sun as temperatures are set to rise slightly next week.

However, don't get too excited as they still won't go much above 10 degrees.

Monday will see highs of six degrees, but by Thursday some areas might see the giddy heights of 8 degrees on the thermometer.

It is likely to remain quite cloudy, with chances of rain in some areas.

The Met Office forecast for the end of the month reads: "Across the south of the UK it will be drier and more settled although probably rather cloudy.

"Any rain will only be a brief interruption and any breaks in the cloud cover will give foggy or frosty overnight conditions.

"Over the Christmas period the north-south split looks mostly likely to begin to break down with unsettled, often windy, conditions developing thereafter, with any snow most likely across the north of the UK."
