Landlords at a pub have been left shocked and shaken after thieves broke in and left behind a trail of destruction.
Burglars ransacked the Anchor Inn pub, in Canewdon’s High Street, in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Joint owner Brian Cowie, who lives above the pub with his partner Natalie Russell and eight-year-old daughter, woke up to find that thieves had stolen a large number of spirits.
The family did not hear the raid taking place.
A condom machine and jukebox was also stolen, as well as a small amount of cash.
The thieves managed to rip the jukebox off the wall before stealing it.
Mr Cowie said: “Our daughter is understandably shaken up but all we can do is crack on.
“They took a back window out. It seemed very professional, they came in and took what they needed and left without making any noise.
“No-one likes to have their stuff taken that they worked hard for.”
The couple posted on the pub’s Facebook page that it will be business as usual following the break-in and the pub will be open.
Customers are advised that forensics and police may be present whilst they continue to examine the scene.
The Facebook post said: “We are all ok and unharmed which is the most important thing.
“Stock and equipment can be replaced.
“The infuriating thing is the lasting damage it leaves as I now have a small child who is cared in her own home.”
More than 100 people have shared the Facebook post and commented on their disbelief and support.
An Essex Police spokesman said: “We are investigating reports burglars broke into The Anchor Inn in High Street, Canewdon, sometime between 12.30am and 7am on February 10.
“A jukebox and bottles of alcohol were stolen.
“Witnesses who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area at the time or has any information about who is responsible is asked to contact Canvey local policing team on 101 quoting reference 42/19355/18.”
