An 18-year-old man has been arrested in Amsterdam on suspicion of murder after a man was shot dead outside a petrol station in Essex last year.

John Pordage, 34, died after being shot in the chest at the BP garage in Chelmsford in the early hours of August 5.

A man identifying himself as Bradley Blundell was arrested after attending a police station in Amsterdam on Saturday, Essex Police said.

The force said it is preparing papers for his extradition back to the UK.

He was arrested on suspicion of murder, possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, perverting the course of justice and handling stolen goods, police said.

Mr Pordage was with a friend, a 25-year-old man, when the incident took place near the Army and Navy roundabout in Baddow Road last summer.

The victim was taken to hospital where he later died.

His mother, Sue Wilson, paid tribute to him as someone who was “fun-loving and wore his heart on his sleeve”.

“He was known for his big personality and friendly nature,” she added.
