A council is in the process of taking action against an illegal traveller encampment which has arrived this afternoon.
The travellers arrived at the Southend Leisure and Tennis Centre at some stage yesterday.
One witness told the Echo: "About a dozen caravans have taken over the side car park at the leisure centre, usually reserved for coaches and used as an overspill at weekends.
"Cars are blocking any through access to the side car park. Two caravans are also in the main car park."
Council officers are already taking steps to move them on.
A council Spokesperson said: “We are aware that travellers have moved onto land at Southend Leisure and Tennis Centre and are taking action to move them on.”
