Commuters have been warned to expect delays if heading to Southend this morning after a crash has resulted in lane closures.

The crash took place at about 6am this morning in Progress Road, Eastwood, and is causing problems for the Southend-bound A127.

The AA traffic service is reporting delays of at least 10 minutes on the major road and the queues are increasing.

The traffic has already reached the Rayleigh Weir junction.

Motorists are advised to find an alternative route where possible or allow extra time to travel.

PC Marek Jaworski, of the Southend Local Policing team, tweeted: "Problems at Progress Road in Southend this morning after a collision resulting in road closures.

"This will undoubtedly affect the A127 and other surrounding roads. Avoid for now where possible!"

Whether anyone is injured or how many cars are involved is not known at this stage.

A spokesman from the ambulance service said: "We were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Progress Road, Eastwood, this morning at 6.57am.

"Two ambulance attended to scene to treat one patient, a female, who was taken to Southend University Hospital for further treatment."
