So, here we are at the final week of another season. League tables are taking shape and 40 weeks of blood sweat and tears will bring a huge amount of joy to a lucky few. Whatever happens this week we have a lot to look forward to and we should be grateful for that. The possibility of a play-off semi-final at Bowers fills me with excitement.

It was an important 2-0 win on Saturday. You need to consider how difficult the conditions were and that we’d suffered a last gasp defeat at home to Heybridge less than 48 hours before. Once again the team showed a great maturity to keep knocking on the door without pressing the panic button.

I’m repeatedly reminded of how big a week this is for the club but I think we are quite unique with how calm we can be. As a club we are probably not quite ready to compete at Bostik Premier level and it certainly isn’t something demanded of us to achieve. If we get there it will be something quite incredible and the club will adapt accordingly because these opportunities don’t come around too often. I don’t think the Chairman is going to lose any sleep if we are at step four again next season though.

There is still a lot of football to be played and anything can happen. You just have to remind yourself of all the sacrifices you make and you do that for these moments. I’m enjoying myself.

On the local football scene there is still loads going on. Very best of luck to Billericay and their title bid. It’s a huge week for Concord too and I have no doubt they will retain their National League South status. I’m rooting for Great Wakering to wrap up the Essex Senior League title and good luck to Basildon United too who I think have a stranglehold on the second promotion place. Finally, congratulations to Canvey Island on your play off place secured Saturday. It’s going to be a busy couple of weeks for Luke and Danny!
