ADAM Flanagan believes Concord Rangers must get at least a draw against Hungerford Town tonight as they bid to secure league safety amid an ‘unprecedented’ injury crisis.

Seven of the Beach Boys players are either out or doubtful meaning Flanagan has no choice but to turn to the club’s under-18 team.

Needing just a point to ensure they remain in the National League South, Concord conceded a 94th minute goal to lose 1-0 to Poole Town on Saturday.

And with a trip to second-placed Havant & Waterlooville to come on the final day of the season, boss Flanagan says a point against Hungerford - who also need points to stay up - is a must.

“Saturday was a missed opportunity to secure safety but for 94 minutes we were on track to get the point we needed,” said Flanagan.

“Poole threw everything at us and, in the main, we defended really well but unfortunately we weren’t able to get a block on the shot that won them the game in the final seconds.

“That’s two loses now in added time over recent weeks and that has been hard on the group but we can’t feel sorry for ourselves.

“We need to turn up tonight and complete the job.

“As documented last week we have a unprecedented injury crisis at the moment and had to give a 17-year-old (Zack Littlejohn) his first team debut.

“We lost Adam Topley through injury during the game so we are likely, at this moment in time, to have two under-18’s as a minimum starting tonight followed by every substitute being under-18.

“I don’t think any other club at our level will have to deal with what we are currently and this is a knock-on effect of only being able to have a 16-man squad.

“We must get something from the game tonight, it’s as plain and simple as that.

“It resembles our greatest chance of securing safety as going to Havant on the last day of the season will be extremely tough.”
