A HOUSING group has confirmed it will be giving compensation to the residents of a block of flats after they went days without running water.

South Essex Homes will be repaying the residents of the Blackdown flats in North Road, Westcliff after a leak caused all 14 blocks to lose its water supplies, toilet facilities and its lift to be shutdown.

The group has said that "where a claim is valid, residents will receive fair and efficient settlements."

A spokesman for South Essex Homes, said: "We have updated residents about compensation claims at Blackdown, following the incident over the weekend of June 16 to 17.

"We recognise the disruption this has caused, and therefore we have assessed residents are entitled to compensation in accordance with our compensation policy, for the loss of amenity and delays in completing repairs.

"Residents have also be offered to claim for additional compensation for the loss and/or damage of goods that may have occurred.

"Each individual claim will be assessed on an individual basis and therefore each claim will be different and these will be processed as soon as possible.

"We are continuing to offer support to all residents at Blackdown."
