CONTROVERSIAL summer parking restrictions along 13 Canvey roads have gone out to public consultation - again.

The long running saga will be discussed for a third time - two years after restrictions were controversially added.

Currently people cannot park on the line between 9am and 8am, between April and September.

Those in favour of the restriction were fed up with tourists parking outside their homes, but the restrictions also apply to residents meaning many people are also unable to park outside their homes.

Eddy Stacey, 63, of Shellbeach Road, is one of those to receive a letter.

He said: “Many years ago, there used to be nowhere on Canvey to park and so people used to park in roads outside people’s homes.

“But now there are lots of places to park for day trippers and visitors.

“It seems that this is just another way to make money for the parking partnership.

“I have spoken to people and they don’t want to have the restrictions in place.

“It stops me parking outside my own home, and I have a work van so I have to empty of all my tools at night. “People should be able to park outside their own homes, it is just ridiculous.”

Islanders received a letter from the parking authority informing them of the latest consultation.

The restrictions have been placed in May Avenue, The Whiteway, Maurice Road, Lottom Road, Hellendoorn Road, Margraten Road, Shellbeach Road, Keer Avenue, Wheel Road, Gafzelle Road, Marine Avenue, Station Road, and Seaview Road.

Tory councillor Ray Howard, former deputy councillor for highways, welcomed holding another consultation.

Mr Howard said: “The partnership thought it was doing something good for residents with the plans. I sympathise with those who can’t park outside their homes.”

A spokesman for South Essex Parking Partnership said: “We wrote to 219 residents as part of a consultation to decide whether we should keep or remove a single yellow line which is a seasonal restriction.

“This was first put through consultation in 2016 and is now going through a consultation as a result of a petition by residents to consider removing the parking restriction.

“Affected residents have 21 days to respond to the proposals which will then go through committee to be reviewed.

“South Essex Parking Partnership urges the affected residents to formally respond to the consultation by emailing trafficreg@chelmsford.gov.uk to have your say.”

A final decision is expected to be made based on the results.
