POLICE have launched an investigation after a man was shot in the head with a crossbow bolt. 

The victim, a man in his 60s, had been walking his dog through Dilkes Park when he was struck at around 4pm yesterday. 

He had suffered a minor injury and was taken to hospital where he received a single stitch.

Police believe there is no threat to the wider public.

Officers carried out a search of the area but could not find anyone.

Multiple police cars were spotted in the area, as well as a police helicopter. 

Investigations are ongoing.

Detective Chief Inspector Jasmine Frost said: “This is a rare and unusual incident and, while the motive is not yet clear, we believe it is an isolated incident with no risk to the wider public.

“If you have any information about what happened I need you to come forward and tell us.”
