Two people have been arrested in Benfleet on suspicion of possession with intent to supply drugs following a foot chase.
Officers from the Operational Support Group signalled for a vehicle to stop without success.
A man then abandoned the vehicle and fled in Downer Road, Benfleet, at around 7.45pm on Tuesday but was arrested following a short foot chase.
A 21-year-old man from Benfleet was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop for police, dangerous driving, failing to stop when directed, driving without insurance and possession with intent to supply class A and B drugs.
Police also arrested a 20-year-old woman from Benfleet on suspicion of possession of a class A drug and possession with intent to supply class A and B drugs.
They both remain in custody for questioning.
Twenty five new officers will join the Operational Support Group next year as part of the force’s investment in policing across the county.
