DOG owners and their canine companions joined together for a dog show.

The event was held as part of the Southend Carnival celebrations in the run up to the annual event.

The rain held off for the event which saw the proud pooches and their owners parade for the crowds at Priory Park, Southend.

The annual dog show, run in conjunction with Southend Canine Society, was a fun day out for dog owners and dogs.

There were also special guests including Derek Jarvis, Southend mayor, and MP Sir David Amess.

Garry Lowel, 60, chairman of the carnival said it was another successful event.

He said: “It was as well attended as usual.

“We had between 50 and 70 dogs enter into the competition.

“We were very pleased to have the mayor of Southend and Sir David attend.”

The Southend Carnival procession sets off on August 18 at 6.45pm from Southchurch Park. It will reach City Beach on the seafront at 7.30pm and finish on the seafront at Shorefield Road at about 9pm.
