A YOUTH choir have returned from a successful two week tour across Australia and Hong Kong.

The Southend Boys and Girls Choir set off on a two week concert tour across the world after performing at the historic BBC Proms, live from London's Royal Albert Hall.

A group of 40 singers spent four days in Sydney where they performed twice.

The group also spent time in the Methodist Ladies’ College, teaching new music to both primary and secondary school children and sharing performances with their students.

A spokesman for the group added: "There was time for sightseeing and relaxing, visiting the Sydney Tower, Bondi Beach, the famous Opera House, and Manly, before flying on to Adelaide."

The choir then performed three lunchtime recitals at Adelaide's city churches, alongside the Australian Girls Choir who hosted the events.

A spokesman added: "There were people in the audiences who had seen the choirs’ visit, and were former residents of Southend, keen to make their acquaintance with the Southend singers.

"The choir spent time visiting local sites, wild life parks, including taking the tram out to the beautiful seaside town of Glenelg, which has its own pier, although not as long as Southend’s pier."

The choir moved on to Perth where they performed in the stunning St George’s Cathedral, and visited the beautiful Kings Park and Botanical Gardens, as well as the Freemantle Markets.
