A HUGE lorry with a major piece of electricity equipment is on its way from Essex to Surrey.

The lorry left at approximately 7pm last night as National Grid moves a transformer from Tilbury Docks, to its West Weybridge substation, Surrey.

It is expected to arrive at the substation by 4pm tomorrow after making a 24 hour stop.

This will ensure the delivery can be made on Sunday, when there is less traffic on the road, which will help to reduce disruption.

The new piece of equipment which measures 8.2m long x 5.2m wide x 4.4m high and weighs in at 170 tonnes will be installed at the substation to help National Grid continue to deliver electricity to homes and businesses across midlands and beyond.
