A CAR flipped onto its roof after careering through a fence in a late-night crash.

People were heard screaming shortly after the crash took place in Southchurch Road, Southend, at about 11pm on Thursday night.

The car ended up in a front garden, but luckily no-one suffered serious injuries in the incident.

One resident, who witnessed the aftermath of the crash said it was “frightening”.

The 34-year-old said: “I was sitting in my garden having a cigarette and heard this massive bang and loads of people screaming ‘help, help’ so I rang the police and ambulance service.

“I then ran to the front of the garden and there was loads of people screaming.

“I realised that the car had come into someone’s front garden and was on its roof.

“It was frightening to see.

“We’ve never had something like that round here.

“It meant I had a pretty restless night because the emergency services were there for hours after.”

Nuno Pinto, 27, from Westcliff, who works nearby said he saw the emergency services.

He said: “I was at work at a nearby off licence and I saw the ambulance and fire engine.

“I think it was a kid who had taken a car for a drive and gone wrong.

“I saw him be taken off in an ambulance.

“He couldn’t talk or anything.

“It was quite shocking.”

An Essex Police spokesman said: “Officers arrived on scene just after 10.20 pm last night, August 16 after a car had been in collision with a wall and overturned.

“The driver of the car suffered minor injuries.

“Our enquiries are ongoing.” Witnesses should call police on 101.
