A SQUID was found washed up on one of Southend's beaches in a rare discovery.

The dead squid was seen on the seafront this morning by a walker who found the animal on the middle of the sand.

Squids, or Cephalopods are rare findings on beaches, with the last known sighting in Southend coming in 2008.

The squid found this morning, measured around 30cm in length, one witness said.
