ESSEX pop icon Olly Murs is back in the county this weekend ahead of a huge homecoming gig.

Olly, from Witham, will headline a massive gig at Castle Park, in Colchester, this Sunday.

This weekend’s gig comes two years on from wowing crowds at the much-loved beauty spot, which Olly had previously told the Gazette was “one of the best gigs he’d ever done”.

The latest show is part of a huge tour Murs has been embarking on for his seventh album Marry Me, which achieved number one in the UK earlier this year.

It has already seen the 39-year-old singer-songwriter perform all over the country, including Manchester, Leeds, London, Brighton and more.

Announcing the tour at the end of last year, Olly has since revealed he will be joined by Scouting for Girls, Dagny and Sam Tompkins at Colchester Castle Park on Sunday.

Previously speaking to The Gazette, Olly said: “I can’t wait to go back out and see the fans.

“For me, I hadn’t done Castle Park before last year, but oh my God the reaction was insane.

“I love that about park venues, it is a bit more rock and roll, more live, anything can happen at any moment, and I love that.

“2021 was phenomenal, one of the best gigs I’ve ever done.

“I said to my team we’ve got to come back here again and it’s going to be awesome.

“I love Essex, love the people, I’m one of your own and I’m very proud of that.

“I can’t wait to get back out there and look forward to seeing all of you at Castle Park.”

The show is this Sunday, August 27.

Gates will open at 4pm and will remain open for entry throughout the evening.

The gig is expected to finish time at about 10.30pm.
