THE deadline on a consultation about changes to the district’s three conservation areas is drawing close.

Basildon Council launched a review of conservation areas in Billericay High Street, Great Burstead and Little Burstead earlier in the year.

It hired consultants from Beacon Planning to carry out appraisals and make suggestions about how the areas could be enhanced and managed in the future.

Their proposals include changing the boundaries and residents have until Friday to have their say.

Conservation areas have more stringent planning rules and are harder to develop.

In Billericay, the conservation area encompasses the high street and Chapel Street.

Beacon Planning’s report recommends providing more car parking for shoppers at the telephone exchange site in Chapel Street as a possibility.

It also suggests extending the conservation area to include some houses on Sun Street, and producing guidelines about shopfronts, signs and advertisements.

About Great Burstead, which has a small conservation area centred around the church, the report recommends adding two green areas to the conservation area.

It also suggests producing guidelines about how extensions and alterations to existing homes should look.

No boundary changes have been suggested for Little Burstead.
