THE family of a volunteer cop, left horrifically injured after a crash while on duty, have condemned the decision to prosecute his collegue.
Tubby Clarke, the dad of 20-year-old Reece, said he believed PC Ian Thompson - who was based at Wickford alongside Reece at the time of the crash - should have gone to trial where he could have cleared his name.
He said police had a statement from an independent motorist, who was travelling behind the squad car at the time of the crash in July last year, who insists the marked vehicle travelled through an amber and not red light while responding to an emergency call.
Mr Clarke will now complain to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC), which carried out the probe into the crash, to about their findings.
