CONCORD Rangers’ woes went on as they were well beaten by newly-promoted Hungerford Town, losing 4-2 on their own turf.

The Beach Boys were 4-0 down until two goals in the final 10 minutes took some gloss off the score-line for the visitors.

Concord come into this match off a two-week break, having exited the FA Cup in the second-qualifying round but they started sluggishly.

The visitors were threatening down the wings, with the pace of Garyn Preen in particular causing problems for Concord’s full-back.

And Hungerford took the lead as a poorly dealt with ball fell to Louis Soares but the finish was unerring.

The attacker placed a perfect left-footed strike into the top left corner, leaving hapless goalkeeper Ben McNamara with no chance at all.

Just shy of half-time the lead was doubled. From a corner the ball was stopped at the near post but Rhys Tyler arrived just on cue to rifle home a thunderbolt strike.

Steve Cawley could and probably should have got his side back into it minutes later but his volley was sent over the crossbar.

Hungerford looked in no mood to let their lead slip and added a third after half-time as James Clark was allowed plenty of space to strike low inside the left post.

Stefan Brown was introduced and scored shorty after his introduction. Town were awarded a penalty which Brown dispatched with ease.

At 4-0 down, the hosts improved late on and, on his return to the club, Tony Stokes scored a magnificent consolation goal.

The ex-Canvey man’s ambitious flick from a very acute angle lobbed Paul Strudley and fell inch-perfect in the bottom right corner.

Concord took a bit of the gloss off their visitors win as Jordan Chiedozie scored a second on his return to the club in injury-time.
