GREAT Wakering Rovers were comprehensively beaten 5-0 by struggling Heybridge Swifts as their season hit a worrying low.

Manager Gary Ansell had been expecting a response after Saturday’s 4-1 reverse against Cheshunt but they were blown away by Swifts, who were in the relegation places at the start of the night.

Reece Grant, Jack Barham, Guillem Ramon and Nick Brown made it 4-0 before half-time, while Barham added a fifth seven minutes after half-time.

And that was how it stayed as Wakering were left to lick their wounds.

Bowers & Pitsea went down 4-2 at Brentwood Town in the Ryman North.

Rob Small’s team started well and James Thomas hit the post inside two minutes.

But Lamar Reynolds grabbed the first goal of the evening, scoring for the hosts and blasting high into the goal.

But back came Bowers on the half hour mark, with Brad Warner doing brilliantly to make his way through the defence to score.

But Reynolds made it 2-1 before half-time as he found the net from the penalty spot.

Andy Greenslade made it 3-1 after the break and Shad Ngandu added a fourth as Brentwood marched away with the result.

Alfie Hilton got a consolation for Bowers but it was too little too late.

Canvey Island are into the fourth round of the Essex Senior Cup after a narrow win against Waltham Abbey.

Martin Tuohy scored the decisive goal just after the hour mark, rounding the goalkeeper to score after an excellent through ball by Harrison Chatting.
