Bowers & Pitsea 0-1 Aveley

BOWERS & Pitsea’s difficult recent run went on as Terry Spillane secured his first win in charge of Aveley since taking over earlier this month.

Bowers came out of the traps very quickly and could have taken the lead inside the first five minutes. Recent acquisition Callum Leahy found space in the penalty area but his header could only crash off the frame of the goal.

Bowers were threatening against Terry Spillane’s side, with the new Aveley manager looking for his first win in his fourth match in charge.

And they did take the lead midway through the half. The ball was crossed into Jordan Peart and he headed home well.

Ben Sartain and Scott Pethers shot off target as Bowers looked to draw level.

But it remained 1-0 at half-time. Early in the second-half, recent acquisition Lewis Greene was forced into making an excellent save to keep Bowers in the match.

Substitute Alfie Hilton was causing problems after his introduction, and he fed Pethers who had advanced into an attacking position. But his strike was wild and off target.

Brad Warner was starved of service for much of the afternoon although he almost combined with fellow former Fleet man Lewis Clark late on, but the free-kick was saved.
