BILLY Bricknell is keen to help blast Billericay Town in to the Football League.

The 28-year-old striker, who started his career at New Lodge, has returned to the Ryman Premier League club from Chelmsford City.

And he is delighted to be part of Billericay’s ambitious plans for the future following the arrival of new owner Glenn Tamplin.

“I spoke to a few people at Billericay and you can’t help but be impressed by their plans for the future so I’m really happy to be part of them,” said Bricknell.

“Billericay is where I started my career and I still consider them to be my home-town club as well because it’s only 20 minutes down the road.

“It’s a really exciting time for the club with plans for improved training facilities and plenty of big players coming in.

“I know they’re targeting a place in the Football League and I want to be part of those plans.

“I’m still only 28 so I have plenty of years left in me and I would love for my career to end with Billericay if that was possible.”

And Bricknell, who looks set to feature in tonight’s clash with AFC Sudbury at New Lodge, is also desperate to play regular first team football after becoming frustrated by a lack of opportunities with Chelmsford.

“I’ve probably only played 11 or 12 games so far this season for Chelmsford and I would ideally liked to have played at least 20 times by now,” said Bricknell, who has netted seven times for the Clarets this term.

“Hopefully I can play more regularly with Billericay and I’m really excited about tonight’s game.

“I know we’re 10th at the moment but there are still 27 games to go and plenty of points to play for so we’re looking to get a good run going to get right into the race for promotion.

“But I know the club don’t want to be in the Ryman Premier for any longer than a year and I’m sure all the players think the same.”

Bricknell will also be keen to triumph having dropped down from National South to make the move.

However, he is still keen to see Chelmsford triumph.

“I would like to see Chelmsford and Billericay get promotion this season,” said Bricknell.

“There are a lot of great lads at Chelmsford and I wish them and the club all the very best for the future.”

But Bricknell now has his sights set on hitting top form for Billericay and Echosport understands he will soon be joined at New Lodge by former Hemel Hempstead Town forward Lewis Taafe, who has previously been with Concord Rangers and was once on trial at League One side Bristol Rovers.
