BILLERICAY Town boss Craig Edwards believes his new look side will soon be working their way back up the Ryman Premier League standings.

Town are now 10th in the table following Tuesday night’s 3-2 defeat against AFC Sudbury at New Lodge.

But Edwards is certain Billericay - who he feels are currently playing like strangers - will quickly start to show their quality.

“Basically I think we’re looking like a very talented group of individuals at the moment but we need to start looking like a very talented team,” said Edwards.

“There were seven new lads in the team against Sudbury and I thought we looked like a team of strangers.

“Of course it’s frustrating to be losing and drawing to teams we should be beating but I can have no gripes with the result against Sudbury.

“There were the better team on the night but the one thing I have plenty of experience in doing in the past 19 years is building teams so we will get this right both on and off the pitch.

“The pleasing thing is that not only are we signing quality players but they are also quality people as well so that is going to help make a difference and there’s still an awful long way to go.”

Billericay’s midweek setback came despite them taking the lead after just 15 minutes when Matt Johnson fired home.

However, Dylan Williams equalised just before the break before Luke Callander put Sudbury in front at the start of the second half.

Captain Sam Clarke then made it 3-1 before returning Billericay striker Billy Bricknell netted in the 90th minute.

But Edwards is determined to remain upbeat.

“It’s so exciting to be able to bring in the level of players we are signing at the moment,” said Edwards.

“We haven’t had much time to work with them and tonight is going to be the first training session we’ve had together so it shows how new we are as a group.

“But I’m very confident of putting together a team who can get right up the table.”

Billericay will now be looking to get back to winning ways when they travel to Worthing this weekend.
