KEITH Wilson felt Great Wakering Rovers produced their best performance since his arrival against Aveley - despite suffering a 4-2 defeat.

Rovers enjoyed spells of pressure in a keenly fought battle at Burroughs Park on Tuesday night.

And Wilson felt the final score-line was not a fair reflection of the game.

"I actually thought that was the best we've have played in the six matches I've had since being here," said Wilson.

"At 2-2 I really did feel there was only one team who was going to go on and win it.

"But Aveley then scored from 30 yards and it knocked the stuffing out of us.

"We also made some mistakes defensively which you always seem to be punished for when you're down the bottom but I'm a glass half full kind of person and I'm staying upbeat.

"They gave me everything they've got and 4-2 was not really a fair reflection of the game in my opinion.

"But if we keep on playing like that then we are going to be picking up a lot of points and we also have to have that self belief that we're going to get out of trouble."

Jake Gordon scored both of Great Wakering's goals in the defeat but they remain 22nd in the Ryman North standings.

Rovers will now be looking to bounce back this weekend in a hugely important clash away at bottom of the table Thamesmead Town who are currently just three points below Wilson's team having also played three less games.
