BILLERICAY Town manager Craig Edwards remains confident the club’s takeover by businessman Glenn Tamplin will be completed in the weeks to come.

It was revealed that Tamplin was scheduled to take over from Steve Kent almost four weeks ago, with the man who is a former captain of Edwards already flexing his financial muscle.

Town have brought in a host of new players, including Jerome Sobers, Matt Johnson, Luke Moore, Billy Bricknell and Lewis Taaffe – although Town have failed to record a win in the Ryman Premier League since before Tamplin came on the scene.

But Edwards has no concerns that the final approval is taking longer than anticipated to go through.

“Steve wants it to go through and so does Glenn so I don’t see a problem but it is about technicalities at this point,” he said. “I don’t envisage a major problem. I had it when I bought my house and you just want it over the line.

“He (Tamplin) has been great. I told him we need to improve in two areas if we want to push on and he has told me to ‘go and get them’ and has been very supportive that way.

“I hope to announce more this week and that will be it, subject to the players we have doing their jobs and not getting more injuries.”

Town are currently faced with a massive injury list, with Ricky Sappleton and Edvardas Gaurilovas long-term absentees and Pierre Hazet, Quentin Monville, Danny Fitsimons, Conor Hubble and Sobers all out as well.

And Edwards says he needs players back and playing regularly in a bid to get his players to gel and reach their potential.

“We need everyone fit and available so we can settle down and push forward as a team,” he said. “The injury crisis we have had means it’s constant change and it doesn’t bode well.

“The new lads have been fantastic. The problem is simply not being able to work with the same group because of injuries. I know the back four I want but I don’t think I can put them out yet.

“We have improved recently in terms of performances but we looked vulnerable defensively.”
