AARON Bloxham has encouraged his Basildon United players to go and create more club history when they visit Heybridge Swifts in the Essex Senior Cup quarter-final tonight.

The Bees have already seen off higher league opposition in the form of Canvey Island and Great Wakering Rovers and they might fancy their chances against the side two places above the relegation places in the Ryman North.

Basildon won their first match in six Essex Senior League outings on Saturday, and manager Bloxham hopes that provides the necessary boost ahead of tonight.

“It is another big test and, looking at the draw before the quarter-final draw was made, they are the ones you would have wanted although it isn’t easy,” he said.

“They probably see us an easy team to get through against but we need to prove that is not the case.”

Basildon have not competed in a Senior Cup quarter-final since the 1984/85 season, and Bloxham said progressing to the last four would be a sublime achievement.

“It would be magnificent for the club,” he said. “We have done so well to make it this far and to go one step further and get another big team in the semi-final would be quite an achievement.

“We needed to get that win on Saturday and we asked the boys to step up and that winning feeling is important.”

Basildon will be without Taylor Sinfield, Jamie Brown and Alf Lindfield, with Yaw Danso rated 50/50.

l Hullbridge Sports turn their attentions to the Gordon Brasted Memorial Trophy this evening.
