IT was late heartbreak for Billericay Town as they exited the Essex Senior Cup after they were seen off on penalties by Thurrock rivals Tilbury.

Having been beaten on spot kicks by Town in the Ryman League Cup earlier in the season, Tilbury got their revenge as they scored a late goal and then triumphed on penalties.

Goldy Capela, so effective coming off the bench this season, got the goal after five minutes to send Craig Edwards’ into the latter parts of the match ahead.

But, in the final 10 minutes Tilbury drew level. Former Dockers stopper Jack Giddens rushed out to make a block but, with the ball seemingly heading away from danger the ball was lobbed the ball over the keeper and into the net.

With the scores level at 1-1 after 90 minutes the game went straight to penalties.

And misses from Kam Guthmy and Matt Johnson ended Town’s hopes of a last four spot.

Basildon United’s journey in the competition came to a brave end as Heybridge Swifts booked their place in the semi-finals.

Goals in each half ensured the Essex Senior League side went down 2-0 against the Ryman North outfit, who have enjoyed a superb run in the competition so far this term.
