BOWERS & Pitsea manager Rob Small has hit out at Heybridge Swifts after they appeared to criticise the postponement of last night’s Ryman North match.

The game at the Len Salmon Stadium was postponed yesterday afternoon, with the pitch deemed unplayable.

Following the announcement, Swifts re-tweeted a number of views from different Twitter accounts expressing their surprise the match had been called off.

But Small says he wanted the match to go ahead as much as anyone.

“I can’t comment on the pitch as I haven’t seen it but we are all as annoyed as the next person it’s off,” he said. “But it is mid-January and we have had a game postponed. I am not sure what the euphoria is all about.

“I would actually like to thank the person running the Heybridge Swifts Twitter account. It will assist with my team-talk for the re-arranged game.

“I was running low on new material so the screenshots will certainly come in handy.”

One user implied the match had been called off because Bowers had a number of suspensions to contend with.

Ross Adams and Callum Leahy would have missed the match, while James Stevens had just been released.

It is the first home match Bowers have had postponed this season, following a £55,000 investment in the pitch and facilities over the summer.

Bowers will now aim to get the pitch ready for Saturday’s visit of Norwich United.
