CANVEY Island’s goal difference took another battering as they were brushed aside 4-0 by Leiston in the Ryman Premier League.

The Gulls were looking to build on Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Harrow Borough, but knew how hard it would be against the Suffolk side, who had scored four against Billericay Town just three days ago.

Leiston were ahead after 15 minutes when, following a Steve Sheehan foul in the penalty area, Jack Ainsley scored after his initial effort was saved.

Niko Muir added a second from long range before the half hour mark and a crucial third just before the interval, with Matt Blake scoring his 31st of the season.

George Sykes hit the post for Canvey shortly after the break, only for Byron Lawrence to make it 4-0 on the hour.

Martin Tuohy struck the frame of the goal once again as Canvey searched for a consolation but it wasn’t forthcoming.

Billericay Town shared the points with Met Police as they continued to struggle for form.

It ended 1-1 although, much like the weekend when they took the lead after four minutes, they started so well.

Abs Seymour scored the opener inside 100 seconds to put Billericay ahead and it remained 1-0 until just before half-time.

Billericay conceded a penalty and former winger Roman Michael-Percil stepped up to level the scores.

And that was how it stayed.
