CONCORD Rangers striker Steve Cawley says tomorrow’s game against fellow strugglers Bishop’s Stortford is ‘massive for both clubs’.

The Beach Boys will be determined to end a disappointing recent run against Stortford when they make the trip to Hertfordshire.

Concord are just a point and a place above the National League South relegation places ahead of kick-off, but will fancy their chances against one of the three sides currently below them.

Stortford have lost 18 of their 25 games so far this season and Cawley, who used to play for tomorrow’s opponents, says it won’t be easy.

“They are fighting for their lives but they are only six points behind us so it is a really big game,” he said. “It is always a tough one and we all know that.

“Quite a few of my mates have left there so it is not how it used to be but I know people behind the scenes and it will be nice to see them.”

Cawley netted twice from the penalty spot as Concord came back three times to draw 3-3 with Oxford City last Saturday afternoon.

And he said, while not ideal, it is a point more than they had before the game.

“It was mixed emotions as we came back three times but we shouldn’t have had to,” he said. “We were on top although Oxford played quite well but their goals were down to our mistakes.

“It is the same every year and a few wins can change things. If we do well we can move away from trouble for a bit but if someone above us loses a few games they are back in it.”

And manager Flanagan said he is only looking to bring three points back to Essex.

“I think both teams need to win for obvious reasons so I doubt either team will be playing or be happy with a draw,” he said.

“We must now show all of those fighting attributes from last weekend’s draw with Oxford again in tomorrow’s fixture against Bishop’s Stortford.”
