GREAT Wakering Rovers capitulated once again as AFC Hornchurch ran riot in the second-half to earn a thumping 5-2 win.

Wakering had picked up a morale-boosting point last time out and would need more of the same if they harboured any hope of staying up.

But they didn’t begin well against play-off hopefuls Hornchurch.

Ten minutes were on the clock when Teddy Nesbitt and Ozzy Adeniji combined, with Ross Wall heading home.

Rovers hit back well though and created several good opportunities, with Urchins stopper Sam Mott needed to made several smart saves.

But he was helpless to deny the equaliser.

Jake Gordon stepped up and curled a fine free-kick into the top corner from 20 yards.

Rovers were the better side, but in less than 10 minutes the game was taken away from them.

Abs Thompson fired into the corner via a deflection 10 minutes into the half, before things got worse.

Elliot Styles looked to have added a third two minutes later, although Leon McKenzie was also claiming the final touch with the forward credited with the goal.

There was no doubt McKenzie got the fourth on the hour, converting the penalty after goalkeeper Dylan Skinner had fouled Adeniji.

And McKenzie rounded off his treble inside the final 15 minutes with an easy finish from close range.

Jonathan Nzengo grabbed a late consolation but that was as good as it got.
