A SECOND half blitz from Billericay Town gave them a much-needed three points against Burgess Hill Town.

A brace from Rob Swaine, including a stunning volley, and another double from Billy Bricknell saw Billericay move to within six points of the play-off places.

And Tamplin was delighted with his side’s second half performance.

“I changed it up a bit at half time as I felt we needed something different going forward,” said Tamplin.

“I think we need to become more ruthless and we certainly showed that in the second half.

“I’m manager here until the end of the season but I’ve got two out of two so far so I hope it can continue.”

Lewis Taaffe and Bricknell missed chances to give Billericay a deserved lead before half time, but Swaine opened the scoring less than 10 minutes after the interval.

A corner initially put in by Paul Konchesky caused confusion in the penalty area.

The hosts recycled the ball and Swaine rose highest to out-jump James Richmond and power home in front of 829 supporters at New Lodge.

The former Bromley central defender nearly added a second just before the hour mark as he forced Burgess Hill Town goalkeeper James Shaw to tip his audacious overhead kick over the crossbar.

But Bricknell added Billericay’s second from the resulting corner.

A routine cross to the back post was nodded back across the six yard box by Swaine and the forward was left unmarked and made no mistake.

Just two minutes later, it was three.

A long throw from Tambeson Eyong fell to Swaine, who notched his second of the afternoon with a superb volley from the edge of the penalty area that flew into the top corner.

Bricknell completed the scoring as he fired in from just inside the penalty area to secure a comfortable win.

The striker nearly completed his hat trick at the death, but was denied by Shaw.
