CANVEY Island’s five match winning streak was brought to an end by league leaders Bognor Regis Town.

A James Fraser hat-trick, along with a Jimmy Muitt strike, saw the title chasers claim all three points and leave the Gulls just three points above the Ryman Premier League drop zone.

Frankie Merrifield came close to giving Danny Heale’s side the lead, but his 25 yard effort struck the inside of the post before being claimed by home goalkeeper Dan Lincoln.

The home side took the lead in the 14th minute after George Allen conceded a free kick.

Conor Gough managed to produce a fantastic save to deny what looked like an almost certain goal, but he could do nothing to prevent Fraser from poking home the rebound from close range.

Bognor doubled their advantage on 37 minutes after Gabby Adelowo had tripped James Wild inside the area as he cut in from the left. Fraser stepped up and sent Gough the wrong way to double his tally.

The result was put beyond doubt on 65 minutes when Muitt got the better of Dumas 20 yards from goal and drilled an accurate shot into the bottom corner.

The scoring was rounded off in the 89th minute as Fraser completed his hat trick.

Wild delivered a low ball across the face of goal and Fraser was able to slide home at the far post.
