No words can sum up the emotional rollercoaster of football better than the minutes of 4.47pm and 4.48pm on Saturday in our camp.

At 4.47pm, the referee blew his whistle on a 0-0 draw in what was a must win game with Thamesmead Town.

We had missed a penalty, missed some other glorious chances and our season was seemingly over.

But, at 4.48pm, we found out that all three teams around us had lost and we had actually moved up a place in the table and were now within just three points of the final play-off place.

I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.

Should I be grateful to still be in the hunt, or be frustrated at the missed opportunities?

Perhaps I need to take my own advice and just enjoy these moments and the big games.

Easier said than done but rewind the clock to August and tell me that Bowers & Pitsea, the newly promoted side, would be within three points of the play offs with three games to go...

When you say that out loud it seems ridiculous.

One thing is for sure and that is the pressure sits elsewhere.

Fifth place is for Phoenix Sports to lose and after one win in six games we should be dead and buried.

While the teams at the top of the table crumble, the teams at the bottom of the division are going from strength to strength.

We used 50 points as our benchmark for survival this season but I am not sure that is going to be enough, such is the form in the lower ebbs of the division.

It makes it an exciting time for supporters who, excuse the cliché, can really be a 12th man in this period.

The impact vocal support can have on a team in a closely fought game could be the difference between success and failure.

If you can’t enjoy these moments as a supporter you should stick to shopping with the missus!

Enjoy it!
