ROB Hodgson has vowed not to make the same mistake twice ahead of tonight’s Tolleshunt D’Arcy Cup final.

Hullbridge Sports take on Heybridge Swifts at Scraley Road tonight, looking to avenge their defeat to the same team in last season’s showpiece.

Manager Hodgson admits he got it wrong that night, but has backed his team to give it a good go against their Ryman North counterparts.

“We made a mistake in the final last season and we won’t make the same mistake again,” he said. “I had played my youngsters through every round as I thought this was one of those trophies where that was the done thing.

“When we got to Heybridge they rolled out their first team and although our youngsters made a good show of thing, we were well beaten.

“I’m not making excuses, but I don’t think the fixtures helped us this season. We were playing two games a week for the first two months and now have not played a league game since March 18 and we play our last league game of the season on April 29.

“But we have the desire and the ability to get some silverware for this season, but it will depend which Hullbridge side comes out on the night.”

The match, beginning at 7:45pm will see former Sports striker Luke Hornsley line up for Swifts, while Jimmy Cox is the danger man for Hodgson’s side - currently on 15 goals for the season.
