DAN Trenkel says he is looking forward to a return to management after taking over at Great Wakering Colts Under-15s.
Trenkel has been out of management since he quit as Rovers’ first-team boss in October 2015.
But he is now returning, following the departure of Andy Stack as boss, having assisted him for the second half of the last campaign in the Southend & District Junior Sunday League.
“Andy’s son has stopped playing so he has stepped aside as,” he said.
“He has managed them since under-7s and a decision had to be made.
“The team plays in Division C but would have been forced to move up to Division A and I didn’t want that to happen as only five or six players would be taken over.
“The only option was for me to step in.”
Trenkel’s son Callum is about to start his fifth year at the club, and added he wants to make the boys better players.
“I have been coaching the boys for the last half of the season so they know me well,” he said. “It was strange not managing last year but not in a bad way. It is nice to take a step back and the man-management side of things is tough.
“It will be easier with kids as they are always honest. The achievement for some managers at this level is winning the league but it is better to play well in order to progress to adult football.
Any players in School Year 10 in September are encouraged to contact Trenkel on 07876 563 561.
Training begins on Saturday, June 24.
