MOHAMMAD Amir is expected to make his first appearance for Essex in the County Championship day-night clash with Middlesex next week.

Amir, who is able to feature for his new employers in all formats, has joined Essex for the second half of the season as an overseas player.

The fast bowler, 25, was introduced to the Essex County Ground crowd at the first day tea break of the clash with Warwickshire on Monday.

And Amir will be hoping to make an immediate impression when the County Championship meeting with Middlesex gets underway on Monday.

Amir joins Essex fresh from playing a pivotal role in helping Pakistan secure the Champions Trophy title.

Essex’s new signing steered his country towards victory in the Champions Trophy final with impressive bowling against India’s top order at the Oval.

Amir took the wickets of Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli - along with bowling figures of 3-16 from six overs - to put Pakistan on course for the win, which they sealed by a 180 run margin.

Following the tournament victory, Amir said on Twitter: “We are the Champions! What a brilliant game of cricket today!

“Thoroughly enjoyed making my contribution to the victory.

“Each player performed fearlessly in his department which is the true spirit of sportsmanship.”

Amir will be looking to help Essex improve their lead at the top of the County Championship Division One standings with more devastating bowling, like he showed throughout the Champions Trophy.

The fast bowler took five wickets from four matches to finish as the tournament’s joint sixth leading wicket taker.

While Amir has joined Essex, fellow overseas player Neil Wagner will leave the Essex County Ground, this week, after an impressive spell with the county.
